NOPPO gets most outstanding anti-trafficking community network award
The Negros Occidental Provincial Police Office (NOPPO) headed by Provincial Director, Col. Rosendo Franco placed first in the Search for the Outstanding Anti-Trafficking Community Networks for the year 2008 during the STEER National Evaluation Workshop held at the Astoria Plaza, Ortigas, Pasig City, recently.
STEER stands for Strengthening the Enabling Environment to Improve Response to Trafficking in Person and Related Cases.
NOPPO got the highest points in its presentation of best practices such as Holding of Orientation/Dialogues for the Prevention of Anti-Trafficking in Person or the Republic Act 9208 and the Installation of Data Base to All Police Units.
Other winners include General Santos City which ranked second followed by Compostela Valley placing third.
NOPPO received a P10,000 cash and a plaque of recognition awarded by the STEER Project also for its outstanding contribution in building communities in the fight for rights of women and children.
The STEER Project is under Jamie Davis, Country Program Director of American Center for
International Labor Solidarity and Cedric R. Bagtas, Project Coordinator of the US DOS/G/TIP/Solidarity Center and is funded by the US Dept. of State, G/TIP to the American Solidarity Center Philippine Office. (Capitol News)
